Located in Bardstown, Kentucky, Willett Distillery has a rich legacy in bourbon and rye whiskey production. The Willett family’s roots in the industry go as far back as the post-Civil War era when family members began formulating whiskey.
In 1936, Thompson and Johnny Willett formally established the business on their family farm. By 1984, Even Kulsveen, Thompson’s son-in-law, acquired the company and renamed it Kentucky Bourbon Distillers Ltd., though it remained within family ownership.
Between 1984 and 2012, Willett’s whiskeys were produced at undisclosed Kentucky locations. In 2012, the distillery opened a new facility and resumed working under the Willett name.
The portfolio includes the Willett Family Estate collection, which is known for its single-barrel straight ryes, along with Johnny Drum and Old Bardstown bourbons. The company is dedicated to variety and artisanal production.
